Here are the latest happenings in the AFL Premiership at the end of Round 16.
Blues Thump Power
Port Adelaide Power 110-60 Carlton Blues
Incredibly, Carlton only managed to score one goal before halftime, and the hostile away crowd of 30,000+ were letting them know about it. At the other end of the field, Port Adelaide were on fire. Mitch Georgiades had a stellar game, kicking 5 goals, and Zak Butters kept the Power’s attack running smoothly with 30 disposals and nine inside 50s!
Bulldogs Edge Past Swans at SCG
Sydney Swans 96-105 Western Bulldogs
This was a seesawing affair in Sydney. Amazingly, the lead changed 10 times throughout the match. Despite a terrific game from Isaac Heeney, who kicked 5 goals. Joel Freijah ultimately proved the difference. The young gun slotted 4 goals, including 2 huge long bombs, which helped the Bulldogs cement their top 8 position. It also didn’t help the Swannies when Hayden McLean missed a sitter when Sydney was done by less than 2 goals.
Suns Too Good For Demons
Gold Coast Suns 104-85 Melbourne Demons
Gold Coast returned to winning form. Their 19-point victory over the Demons helped the Sun break a 3-game losing streak. The Suns ran off to a 36-point quarter-time lead before Melbourne reeled them back in. However, a strong 3rd quarter performance from the Suns secured them the win.
Hawks Embarrass Kangaroos in Tasmania
Hawthorn Hawks 150-65 North Melbourne Kangaroos
Jack Gunston led from the front with a personal record of seven goals, helping the Hawthorn beat North Melbourne by a whopping 85 points. With that, the Hawks are sitting pretty in 4th on the ladder. Not far behind Gunston was Mabior Chol, who kicked 5 goals. Hawthorn has figured out North Melbourne, winning seven in a row against the Roos.
Magpies Comfortably Beat Eagles at Marvel Stadium
Collingwood Magpies 88-59 West Coast Eagles
Collingwood extended their lead at the top of the ladder with a very solid performance against the Eagles, who are sitting at the very opposite end of the standings. Scott Pendlebury and Darcy Cameron were absolute workhorses for the Magpies, with over 20 disposals and nine clearances each.
Collingwood had to fight for the victory and were trailing until the 3rd quarter, but ultimately they snatched the win. It was a collective effort for the Magpies, with Brody Mihocek, Patrick Lipinski, and Tim Membrey all kicking two goals each.
Crows Crush Tigers at MCG
Richmond Tigers 54-122 Adelaide Crows
Despite the Tigers having home-ground advantage, the Crows were never troubled by Richmond. Riley Thilthorpe was a man on a mission. His five goals helped Adelaide run away with a 68-point win. It was a bit of a scrappy game with both sides struggling in the cold weather, but in the end, Adelaide showed why they are a top 4 side.
Dockers Win a Thriller Against Saints
Fremantle Dockers 81-69 St. Kilda Saints
The Dockers extended their winning streak to eight games after edging past St Kilda in a highly entertaining contest. Fremantle were down in the last quarter but came up clutch, kicking five of the last six goals. Josh Treacy’s three goals were crucial, and Jordan Clark had a big game with 31 disposals, 10 marks, and a goal.
