AFL Flag Odds — The Frontrunners

Fremantle Dockers — $5.50 (favourite)

The biggest 2026 story. Fremantle have stunned the market with their 10-1 start — only their second loss came on a road trip to Adelaide. Pat Voss is up the front of the Coleman tracker; the midfield trio of Serong–Brayshaw–Young is the most-balanced two-way unit in the comp. Optus Stadium is a fortress (7-0 at home so far). The price reflects “best record in the comp” + home-finals likelihood. Value: moderate. They earned the price.

Sydney Swans — $6.50

9-2 but the early-season favourites have shortened from $4.50. The Bloods have won 7 straight at one stage but the recent loss to Fremantle exposed the midfield depth. Isaac Heeney’s purple patch is the key — when he’s at full tilt, Sydney is the most-dangerous late-game team in the comp. Value: still solid each-way at $6.50.

Hawthorn Hawks — $7.00

The most-improved team of 2026, riding a 6-game winning streak into Round 12. Sam Mitchell has reshaped the midfield around Will Day, and the Hawks’ contested-ball numbers are top-3. The historic warning sign: Hawks are 0-3 in MCG semi-finals against Geelong this decade. Value: the longest-priced of the genuine top 4 contenders.

Brisbane Lions — $8.00

Defending champions but 6-4 has them outside the top 4. Lachie Neale is in vintage form (Brownlow contender) and the forward line of Daniher–McStay–Hipwood produces points in any conditions. The injury list has hurt them — Cam Rayner and Will Ashcroft both miss time. Value: if Brisbane sneak top 4 by R23, they’re $5 in finals. $8 e/w is worth a small play.

Melbourne Demons — $9.00

Resurgent at 7-3 after a slow start. Christian Petracca’s return to form is the most-important storyline of the year — the Dees go from “midfield-second” to “midfield-first” when Petracca cooks. Goodwin still has his system humming when Max Gawn wins the ruck contests cleanly. Value: live each-way, but Dees haven’t won a clutch September match since the 2021 flag.

Best of the Rest

The mid-table teams at $15-$26 — Geelong, Gold Coast, Adelaide — all have plausible top-4 paths but need to win 8 of their last 12 to lock in home finals. The longest-priced live candidates at $40+ (Collingwood, Bulldogs) need both a hot finish AND a fortunate finals draw. Mid-table live each-way value is in Adelaide $26 — they’ve split their 11 games with a percentage close to 100, so a 14-win season is realistic.

AFL Top 8 Odds 2026

The top 4 race is essentially locked between Fremantle, Sydney, Hawthorn and Melbourne/Brisbane. The 5-8 race is wider open with Geelong, Gold Coast and Adelaide all in the running. Top 8 confirmed (typical odds):

  • Fremantle, Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong — Top 4 by R23 ~ $1.50-$2.00
  • Brisbane, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide — Top 8 by R23 ~ $1.30-$1.80
  • Collingwood, Bulldogs, GWS, Carlton — Top 8 ~ $4.00-$10.00 (need a flat-out run home)

AFL Grand Final 2026 Odds

The 2026 AFL Grand Final is at the MCG, Saturday 27 September 2026 at 2:30pm AEST. Current GF futures odds favour the top-2 sides on the ladder + the home-and-away winner — typically Fremantle ($5.50) + Sydney ($6.50) are the two most-likely GF participants based on R12 form. For an Aussie-flag party at the ‘G, neutrals will be hoping for a Sydney v Fremantle Sept showpiece — neither has won a flag since Sydney’s 2012 and Fremantle has never won a Premiership.

AFL Wooden Spoon Odds 2026

Two teams stand out at the bottom: Essendon (1-10) and Richmond (2-9). With 12 rounds to play, both are odds-on for the wooden spoon. The market typically settles around:

  • Essendon Bombers — $2.20 favourite for the wooden spoon
  • Richmond Tigers — $2.80 (slight rebuild-mode improvement expected)
  • West Coast Eagles — $4.50 (rebuild year continues)

How Do AFL Premiership Odds Work?

AFL Premiership odds are futures markets — set before the season starts and revised after every round based on results, injuries, and percentage movements. Most major Australian bookmakers offer two forms: Premiership Winner (one team, all-or-nothing) and Top 4 / Top 8 finish markets. Each-way premiership bets are usually 1/4 odds for finishing top 4. The market settles when finals begin — outright premiership winner only pays on the eventual flag winner, not finalists.
