AFL 2026: Round 15 in Focus

Fremantle just keep winning. The Dockers came from 28 points down to beat Geelong and stretch the competition’s hottest streak to 13 straight, holding firm at the top of the ladder. Behind them Hawthorn powered into the top four, Adelaide produced a gutsy come-from-behind win over Melbourne, and Carlton kept their unlikely finals push alive with a fifth straight win. Collingwood, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs all banked comfortable wins to round out the weekend.

Fremantle make it 13 straight after a stirring comeback

Fremantle 99 def. Geelong 90

The Dockers trailed by 28 points in the second quarter at Optus Stadium before storming home to win 14.15 (99) to 14.6 (90) on Thursday night, extending the AFL’s longest current winning run to 13 games. Luke Jackson (three goals) and Jye Amiss (three) led the charge as Freo flipped the clearance battle after half-time, while Max Holmes (27 disposals) and Tanner Bruhn (26) were busy for a wasteful Geelong who kicked themselves out of it.

Hawthorn climb into the top four at Carrara

Hawthorn 113 def. Gold Coast 97

Hawthorn surged into the top four with a 16-point win at People First Stadium on Friday night, kicking 17.11 (113) to Gold Coast’s 14.13 (97). Jai Newcombe was enormous through the midfield (31 disposals and two goals), Dylan Moore booted four and Nick Watson three. Noah Anderson was outstanding in defeat with 43 disposals and Ben Long kicked four, but the Suns could never quite peg back an early Hawks burst.

Crows dig deep to down the Demons

Adelaide 79 def. Melbourne 62

A high-pressure arm-wrestle at Adelaide Oval went the Crows’ way in the final term. Melbourne led at every change until Riley Thilthorpe kicked the go-ahead goal and Josh Rachele sealed it with two late majors, Adelaide winning 11.13 (79) to 9.8 (62). The result nudged the Crows up the eight and stalled a Demons side that couldn’t make its early dominance count.

ā€œBlue tsunamiā€ — Carlton make it five straight

Carlton 88 def. GWS 65

Carlton’s remarkable run under interim coach Josh Fraser rolled on, the Blues winning 12.16 (88) to 9.11 (65) at Engie Stadium for a fifth consecutive victory to keep their faint finals hopes flickering. Small forwards Francis Evans (three goals) and Will Hayward (two) did the damage as a drifting GWS slipped further out of the race.

Daicos brothers run the show as Pies bank it

Collingwood 78 def. Port Adelaide 52

Nick Daicos was unstoppable with 41 disposals and a goal, brother Josh adding 30, as Collingwood controlled a low-scoring affair at the MCG on Saturday night to win 11.12 (78) to 6.16 (52). Tim Membrey kicked three. Port Adelaide’s woeful 6.16 told the story — plenty of entries, no polish — as the Power’s disappointing season ground on.

North Melbourne too good for Richmond in a battle of the bottom

North Melbourne 73 def. Richmond 48

North Melbourne controlled a meeting of two of the competition’s strugglers at the MCG, winning 10.13 (73) to 6.12 (48) on Sunday. Harry Sheezel (31 disposals) and Caleb Daniel (40) ran the game from the middle, with a four-goal haul up forward leading the Roos’ scoreboard. Richmond’s long rebuild continues near the foot of the ladder.

Bulldogs grind out a vital win over injury-hit St Kilda

Western Bulldogs 83 def. St Kilda 61

The Western Bulldogs protected their spot in the eight with a 22-point win at Marvel Stadium, 12.11 (83) to 8.13 (61), over a St Kilda side ravaged by injury — the Saints lost Jack Sinclair (calf), Rowan Marshall (shoulder) and Tom De Koning (ribs) during the match. Marcus Bontempelli, Bailey Dale and Tom Liberatore led the way for the Dogs; Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera was best for the Saints.

Ladder implications

Fremantle remain clear on top, their 13th straight win opening daylight at the summit, with Sydney (on the bye) holding second. Hawthorn are the big movers, climbing into the top four. The mid-table logjam tightened: Adelaide’s win lifted the Crows above Melbourne, while the Western Bulldogs defended their place in the eight. Carlton’s fifth straight win keeps them mathematically alive but still outside the eight, and at the bottom Essendon, Richmond, Port Adelaide and West Coast remain anchored.
