Gold Coast vs Hawthorn Preview

Stuart Dew’s young outfit couldn’t quite make it three consecutive wins despite entering the match as heavy underdogs in all of those matches. Although there is still plenty of positives to take into the weekend.

20-year-old Joel Jeffrey kicked five straight majors in that match, but it has been the introduction of Mabior Chol and Levi Casboult that has had the biggest impact on the Suns this season. Both unwanted forwards have kicked 20+ goals this season, which has given them a reliable forward option without the injured Ben King.

Meanwhile, Hawthorn broke a run of four consecutive losses by causing a shock upset against premiership contenders Brisbane in a narrow five-point triumph in the Apple Isle last time out.

The Hawks managed to overcome a four-goal deficit late in the premiership quarter. The big difference was the fact that they were able to make the most of their chances in the first half to keep them in the contest despite having 11 fewer inside 50’s.

It’s a tough match to predict, which makes it the most entertaining and intriguing match-up on Saturday. Considering the ‘home’ side has won eight of the last nine meetings, I’ll back the Suns to come away with the four points in Darwin.
