Brisbane vs Sydney Preview and Prediction
Brisbane after an exciting season last year will be full of high hopes to go one step beyond in the 2021 season.
The Lions looked to target their forward line in the most recent trade period. Joe Daniher arrived from the Bombers as support for Eric Hipwood. Nakia Cockatoo also made the trip to Brisbane from the Cats.
Brisbane put themselves in a position to start the season strong, with a tidy performance against the Suns. They were a little shaky defensively. Nevertheless, they had no problem hitting the scoreboard kicking 18 goals. You can expect the Lions to kick a big score on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Sydney will be looking for their young stars to help them improve upon their 16th place finish last season.
John Longmire has looked to play a slightly more pressure inspired game plan, with a higher handball to kick ratio than in previous years. Tom McCartin will have the big job of containing Daniher or Eric Hipwood, an intriguing contest.
The Swans battled bravely in their pre-season match as they fell to a 28-point defeat. Luke Parker was the best for the Swans booting three goals and is set for another big year.
It’ll be hard to look past the Lions in this one, and I believe they will win handsomely.
Lions vs Swans Team News
Cam Rayner will miss the 2021 season after a knee injury in the AAMI Community Series. Noah Answerth, Nakia Cockatoo and Darcy Gardiner will also miss the Round 1 clash.
The Swans will have Callum Mills and Jake Lloyd available for the season opener but there is still doubt if Lance Franklin will be fit for Saturday night.
The two sides last met in Round 17 last season which saw Brisbane defeat the Swans by 32 points.
