Western Bulldogs vs Brisbane Lions Preview
The Bulldogs recorded their largest ever win in the club’s history, defeating the lacklustre Kangaroos by 128 points on Good Friday.
The Bulldogs have enjoyed their best-ever start to a season, with wins over Collingwood (16 points), West Coast (seven points) and North Melbourne (128 points), leaving them with a healthy 181.6%.
Josh Bruce was magical against the Kangaroos, kicking ten majors, raising his season total to 14, already equalling his goal tally from last season. He has kicked 11 goals from his seven matches against this week’s opponent, Brisbane.
Meanwhile, the Lions won their first match of the season by one point, thanks to a goal after the siren against the Magpies.
After Zac Bailey was arguably robbed of having the opportunity to kick the winning goal against the Cats after the siren in round 2, he didn’t have to wait long for redemption, winning his side’s first match of the season of his own boot.
Perhaps a stimulant to steer Brisbane’s campaign in the right direction after a disappointing 1-2 start to the season. Last year’s Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale has struggled so far this season but will be needed against the best midfield in the competition.
Two teams who have high ambitions for the 2021 season would love to get one over the other, as they could meet in the final’s series, but I believe it will be the Dogs who have the last laugh on Saturday.
Bulldogs vs Lions Team News
The Dogs won’t want to change a winning formula but will need to make one change after Ryan Gardner’s injury on Good Friday, Lewis Young or Zaine Cordy are the preferred options.
Darcy Gardiner, Jarrod Berry and Oscar McInerney are all likely inclusions if deemed fit for Saturday’s clash.
The two sides last met in round 11 last season which saw the Lions win by four goals.
