Magpies vs Blues Preview

The Round 21 blockbuster shapes as a huge one for both sides. Carlton will be desperate to bounce back after going down to Port Adelaide last weekend, while Collingwood are seeking a win in what will be Scott Pendlebury’s 400th game.

The gun midfielder becomes just the sixth player in the history of the game to achieve the feat and was rested late in the Round 20 clash against Richmond, a game that saw the Magpies snap a four-game losing streak in winning by 27 points.

That victory gives the 2023 premiers a faint hope of making finals. The Magpies are 12th on the ladder and one win behind the 8th-placed Western Bulldogs.

Carlton were the sliders in Round 20, dropping down to 4th position after their 14-point loss to Port Adelaide. The Blues could manage just one goal after half-time. Charlie Curnow was lively early on with three goals, while Patrick Cripps had 25 disposals.

Harry McKay is likely to return this weekend and will work in tandem with Curnow. The two sides met earlier this season and it was the Magpies that won by six points. Nick Daicos starred that night and comes in with a 42-disposal haul against Richmond. With the young-gun in good form and the occasion of Pendlebury’s 400th, the Pies can push their rivals here.
