Bulldogs vs Carlton Preview

This shapes as a crucial game for both sides with the Western Bulldogs occupying 7th spot on the ladder, just ahead of 8th placed Carlton. The Bulldogs have won five of their eight games this season, while the Blues have won four and drawn one.

The Western Bulldogs one in with the superior recent form, having won their past three, while Carlton have won just one of their past four. That victory was a 108-point demolition job of West Coast in Round 6. The Blues have since come out and lost by 26 points to Brisbane in Round 8.

Their key forwards in Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay could only manage one goal apiece, while Patrick Cripps was down on his usual output, gathering just 17 disposals.

On the same weekend, the Bulldogs were able to overcome the GWS Giants by 15 points and it was Marcus Bontempelli that led the way with 32 disposals, while Bailey Smith picked up the same amount. Aaron Naughton booted three goals, while Rory Lobb and Arthur Jones chimed in with two apiece.

Luke Beveridge’s side will have to do it without Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Adam Treloar. That pair have been ruled out with injury. The Blues might look at bringing in one or more of Matt Cottrell, Matt Owies or Zac Fisher.

On form, we can expect the Bulldogs to prevail here, but the contest does look to be a toss of the coin, as indicated by the odds.
