Western Bulldogs vs Carlton Preview

Luke Beveridge’s outfit couldn’t redeem themselves in the Grand Final replay against the Demons to kickstart the 2022 AFL season. They were simply outplayed in an eight to three-goal second half.

It was obvious they were missing another towering forward in attack, and despite Aaron Naughton’s four-goal performance it wasn’t enough to stop a 26-point defeat. They will be relying on goals from their midfielders until that is rectified.

This meeting against the Blues has typically been one of the matches of the season. It has also been one that the Dogs have dominated in recent years, winning seven of the previous nine meetings.

Meanwhile, Carlton secured an opening-round triumph over rivals Richmond for the first time in a decade. If there wasn’t any optimism at the Blues, there definitely is now.

It’s a game that is going to be won in the midfield, and it will be an intriguing battle. Patrick Cripps has returned to beyond his best, Matthew Kennedy is racking up career-high numbers, and new-signing Adam Cerra is already showing what he’s made of.

One of the highlights of the match, was the return of Sam Docherty to AFL level after a long battle with testicular cancer.

Although the Blues started the season off with a stellar win, I don’t see them coming out on top against last year’s grand finalists. Although I do believe the crowd could play a big part in the match.
