Hawthorn vs Collingwood Preview

The Hawks pulled off a major upset by downing premiership contenders Brisbane by 12 points.

Hawthorn was the better of the two sides for the majority of the match in their triumph, and although Alastair Clarkson will be pleased with the win, he will be disappointed that his side coughed up a handy 50-point three-quarter time lead.

They will look to send off Clarkson in the best way possible. By winning as many games as they can in the last three rounds, as well as staying clear of being awarded their first wooden soon since 1965.

Similarly, the Magpies pulled off a major scalp by shocking the Eagles by 45 points at the MCG.

Collingwood seemed to keep the game on their terms by using a simple keeping off game plan. They managed to have 107 more disposals going at 82.4% despite losing the clearances comfortably on the day.

There has been a lot of off-field speculation on who will manage the Pies as we get closer to the season’s end, but if Robert Harvey can continue his strong performances, he can make that position his own.

It’s a tough match to predict with both teams very inconsistent in recent week, but they match up well against each other. If the match was still to be played in the Apple Isle, I’d back the Hawks. However, because the game is now at the G’, I’ll back the Magpies to get the four points.

*Teams are yet to be reduced to 22, four omissions still need to be made from the eight-man bench.
