Bulldogs vs Magpies Preview

The Western Bulldogs will be out to become just the third side to knock over Collingwood this season but may face a bit of an uphill battle against the ladder leaders.

Luke Beveridge’s side have won their past two matches with those coming against North Melbourne and the Fremantle Dockers. They trailed Freo early in the last quarter before slamming on seven straight goals to win by 29.Jamarra Ugle-Hagan booted four goals, while Marcus Bontempelli picked up 27 disposals in the win.

Collingwood were impressive in their fixture last weekend, never giving Gold Coast a chance by bursting out of the blocks to eventually win by 78. The victory was their 13th from 15 appearances this season and it was the Brownlow Medal favourite, Nick Daicos, that racked up 36 disposals, while Tom Mitchell had 30. Jamie Elliot led the way up forward with five majors.

This will obviously be a big test for the Bulldogs, who head into the round in 6th position, level on points with Melbourne. They could sneak into the top four with a win. But it is the Magpies that have been the pacesetters and with the exception of a win over Brisbane at Marvel Stadium earlier in the season, the Dogs have seemed to fall short against the higher ranked sides.
