Brisbane vs Essendon Preview

Brisbane will be out to bounce back after throwing away their top four chances with a one-point loss to Collingwood last weekend. The Lions led that match by 17 points with a few minutes to go before going down.

Last year’s runners-up sit in 5th spot on the ladder and a win will most likely see them remain in 5th, unless West Coast can pull off a massive upset against Geelong earlier in the day. A loss for the Lions could see them drop as low as 8th, depending on other results.

Essendon sit in 11th spot on the ladder with 11 wins and a draw this season and are out of contention after going down to Sydney by 39 points in Round 23.

The Bombers were in the top four as recently as six weeks ago but have lost five of their past six. Brad Scott’s side should find plenty of the footy with Zach Merrett, Nic Martin and Jye Caldwell in the middle but will need to work on their entries inside forward 50.

Brisbane should have the firepower in the middle of the ground to supply enough of the ball to their own forwards and as long as the likes of Joe Daniher and Charlie Cameron can convert, the Lions can book a home final with a victory over the red and black.
