GWS Giants vs Essendon Preview

There is plenty at stake in this match with the two sides both in the logjam for finals spots with two home and away matches to play. At the conclusion of Round 22, Essendon are in 9th position, just 0.5% ahead of GWS, who are in 10th.

The Giants have lost two in a row and come off a 51 point loss to Port Adelaide. They were never really in the game, despite the efforts of Jake Riccardi (four goals) and Tom Green (31 disposals).

Earlier on the same weekend, Essendon held out 17th placed North Melbourne by nine points with that win coming just a week after they scraped through against last-placed West Coast by one point. Darcy Parish and Nick Martin both had over 30 disposals in the win over North and will go up against the likes of Green, Lachie Whitfield and Josh Kelly in the middle of the ground.

Martin also chimed in with three goals, while Kyle Langford and Peter Wright combined for five majors. That pair will be the targets up forward. A win for either side will keep their season alive in what is a mini final. GWS take on Carlton in Round 24, while Essendon will be up against Collingwood.
