Essendon Bombers vs Melbourne Demons Preview

This clash promises to be an engaging contest with both sides coming off narrow victories last week against Carlton and Sydney respectively.

The Bombers started against the Swans strongly, kicking five goals in the first quarter, the forward pressure particularly from Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti was a highlight in the first term.

John Worsfold and his side will be aiming to achieve a consistent four-quarter performance against the Demons after failing to see out their opposition when they had a comprehensive lead in the first two rounds.

Darcy Parish had an electric last quarter having 13 disposals and kicking the crucial goal on the boundary which saw the Bombers get over the line against the Swans, with Dyson Heppell out he’ll see some more midfield time.

Meanwhile, Melbourne got over the line in a nail-biting one-point victory, much to the delight of Melbourne fans.

Like the Bombers, the Demons started off the stronger side kicking the first seven goals of the game but from there it was all downhill as they only kicked one goal in the entire second half.

Although the Demons got over the line it wasn’t convincing, they finished with four less scoring shots and eight less inside 50’s than the Blues last Saturday.

Christian Petracca showcased his talent against the Blues last week kicking two brilliant goals and finishing with seven score involvements.

Whichever team gets on top in the midfield will most likely win this encounter.

The Bombers have started the season with two wins by a goal, I think you’ll see something similar on Sunday with them winning another close encounter to start the season 3-0.

Essendon vs Melbourne Team News

Essendon head into Sunday with two changes, Brayden Ham and Irishman Conor McKenna come into the side for Matt Guelfi and Heppell who misses with a fractured ankle.

Melbourne name three changes with Aaron vandenBerg, Kysaiah Pickett and Mitch Hannan all coming in, Alex Neal-Bullen, Luke Jackson and veteran Nathan Jones are all omitted from the side that beat Carlton.

These sides last met in Round 3 last season which saw the Bombers get over the line by three goals.
