North Melbourne vs Essendon Preview

The Kangaroos caused one of the major upsets of the season last time out, defeating the Eagles by 10 points.

Despite conceding the first four goals of the last quarter, David Noble’s side stood strong in a physical encounter to latch onto their third win of the season. They can thank Jaidyn Stephenson, who contributed heavily with 38 disposals and a goal.

A win on Sunday for the Roos could move them off the bottom of the ladder if results go their way. However, it will be a big ask without Ben Cunnington, who has opted to stay in Victoria for family reasons.

Meanwhile, the Bombers cruised past the lacklustre Crows by 63 points.

Essendon was able to restrict Adelaide to their lowest ever score, only conceding a mere 21 points and two goals for the match. However, they will be annoyed that they didn’t win by more, kicking 18 behinds.

This clash is of huge importance for the Bombers, who will need to win most of their remaining games to feature in finals football season. They hold a current six-match winning streak over North Melbourne and have the best percentage of any side below 6th.

Despite North Melbourne causing a major upset last week, I can’t see them beating a young and hungry Bombers outfit at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

Kangaroos vs Bombers Team News

The Roos will be without Ben Cunnington, who has chosen to stay in Victoria for family reasons. Atu Bosenavulagi, Kyron Hayden, Lachie Young and Tom Campbell have been included.

Essendon will be without Kyle Langford due to a hamstring injury. Dyson Heppell is a certainty to return, whilst it’s looking almost certain that Sam Durham will make his debut.

*Teams are yet to be reduced to 22, four omissions still need to be made from the eight-man bench.

The two sides last met in Round 10 this season, which saw the Bombers win by 72 points.
