Fremantle vs St Kilda Preview

Fremantle got off to the best starts possible in 2022, after surviving a scare against the Adelaide Crows by one point. Heath Chapman’s spoil to keep the ball in play in the dying seconds has been labelled by coach Justin Longmuir as the best spoil he’s ever seen.

Although they gained the four points, it was disappointing to see that they let the Crows come back into the contest in the second half. However, they always responded when looking down and out, a resilience not shown in previous seasons.

Meanwhile, the Saints were disappointing in their opening season clash against the Magpies, falling to a three-goal defeat. They were underwhelming in the centre clearances when they needed it most.

In positive news, Jack Hayes was superb on debut, having 10 marks and booting three goals to create another dynamic in the forward half of the ground.

It hasn’t been long since these two sides last met, with Brett Ratten’s outfit convincingly coming out on top in the final round of last season’s home and away fixture.

The home side has been dominant in this fixture in recent meetings, winning on the last five occasions. I don’t see that trend ending on Sunday night either to make it a 2-0 start to the season for the Dockers.
