Hawthorn vs Geelong Preview

After a bright start to their 2022 season, the Hawks have fallen to back-to-back defeats against the Blues (one point) and most recently in a disastrous outing against the Saints (69 points).

Sam Mitchell’s side was brought back to reality, conceding their highest score in six years, and suffering their worst loss since 2017. They simply struggled to get their hands on the footy and lacked pressure in defensive 50, unlike their opening two round wins.

Meanwhile, Geelong survived their toughest challenge of the season so far, securing an impressive 10-point triumph against premiership contenders Brisbane.

On a larger ground at the MCG, you can expect tall forwards Tom Hawkins and Jeremy Cameron to be isolated, making the most out of one-on-one contests and wreaking havoc.

The area in which the Cats need to be wary of is the speed that the Hawks possess out of the contest, particularly off half-back. Chris Scott may look to congest the corridor to limit Hawthorn’s most potent quality.

Matches between these two rivals have often been superb heated spectacles, and I expect to see more of the same on Easter Monday. However, the Cats should cruise to a comfortable victory.
