Cats vs Bombers Preview
There is plenty at stake for the two sides with September just a couple of months away. After a 7-0 start to the year, Geelong have faltered by losing six of seven and another loss is likely to see them outside of the eight at the conclusion of the round.
Essendon rejoined the winners list in Round 15, handing West Coast a 30-point defeat. They sit in 3rd position with nine wins and a draw from their 14 matches this season.
Zach Merrett and Sam Durham found plenty of footy in the win over the Eagles, while Jake Stringer booted five goals. Peter Wright and Kyle Langford chimed in with two.
The latter trio will provide the Bombers with plenty of options up forward. Geelong will need to work on their defence after conceding 21 goals to the Blues last weekend when going down by 63 points.
Plenty of problems at the Cattery with Patrick Dangerfield out due to suspension. He is joined on the sidelined by Tom Hawkins, who looks spent after suffering a foot injury last weekend. The champion forward is coming to the end and has dominated games between the two sides in recent times with 23 goals in his past four matches against the Bombers.
Tom Stewart will need to find an answer in the defensive half, while the Cats coach, Chris Scott, has some work to do to solve Geelong’s issues in the ruck. Hard to back Geelong given their recent form and Essendon can advance one step closer to a top four spot at seasons end by securing a win in front of what should be a big crowd.
