North Melbourne vs Geelong Preview

Geelong will be out to bounce back after going down to the Western Bulldogs last weekend. That loss sees the Cats drop down to 6th position on the ladder and a win will see them press their claims to get back inside the top four.

But the task won’t be easy against North Melbourne, who will be out to continue their competitive form from recent weeks. The Kangaroos pushed 2nd placed Carlton last weekend and were unlucky late in the game when on the receiving end of some 50-50 umpiring decisions, going down by 19.

Despite only winning two of their last seven matches, North Melbourne has shown improvement with only one of those losses being by more than 20 points. This is a contrast to their earlier form in 2024, where they suffered 11 consecutive losses by at least 26 points.

Geelong’s 47 point loss at the hands of the Western Bulldogs came at GMHBA Stadium. This defeat ended Geelong’s three-match winning streak and was their heaviest loss at Kardinia Park since Round 3, 2006.

But it is hard to tip against Geelong, given what is at stake, while they have been too good for North Melbourne in recent times, winning 12 on the trot between the two sides. In Round 5, Geelong defeated the Cats scored by 75 points. We might not quite see a margin in that vicinity but we can expect the 2022 premiers to bank an important win.
