Fremantle vs Gold Coast Preview

The Dockers fought valiantly against the second-placed Western Bulldogs but fell 28-points short.

Fremantle remained within touching distance of the premiership contenders for the majority of the match. However, injuries in the last term cut down any chance of a valuable upset.

Within a few minutes Nat Fyfe, Sean Darcy and Brennan Cox all suffered game-ending injuries at the start of the last quarter. All of which are set to miss Saturday’s clash.

However, Matt Taberner is set to return after two weeks on the sidelines. He has been the main avenue of goal for Justin Longmuir’s side, kicking 27 goals from his 10 matches this season.

Meanwhile, the Suns will have the benefit of a week break, with a bye last time out.

Prior the bye, Gold Coast broke a run of the three defeats, with a convincing 37-point triumph over the struggling Hawks at a neutral venue.

This will be a big chance for their stacked midfield to prove their worth against an injury-riddled Dockers outfit. Matt Rowell, Brandon Ellis, David Swallow, Touk Miller, Hugh Greenwood and Noah Anderson could have a big influence on the result.

Gold Coast has won four of their last six matches against this week’s opponent, which is their best recent record against any side in the competition.

Stuart Dew is set to regain the talented youngster Rowell from his knee injury against the Eagles at Optus Stadium in Round 1. The former number one draft pick has only played six games in his first two seasons due to injury.

Although the Dockers have the home ground advantage, I believe their injuries will be too costly and the Suns could cause an upset.

Dockers vs Suns Team News

The Dockers are set to make a host of changes, with Sean Darcy, Nat Fyfe, Nathan Wilson, Brennan Cox all notable outs. However, Matt Taberner should be fit to play, along with Tobe Watson and Reece Conca. Lloyd Meek will be a certainty.

Matt Rowell and Sam Day will be available after recovering from their knee injuries. Although Matt Rowell will be the likely one to start.

The two sides last met in Round 4 last season which saw the Suns win by 13 points.
