Gold Coast vs North Melbourne Preview
The two sides were on the wrong side of the ledger last weekend, losing their respective matches. North Melbourne took on Richmond at the MCG and went down by 29 points, while the Gold Coast Suns just missed behind Carlton to the tune of four points.
At the conclusion of Round 23, the Suns sit in 15th position on the ladder, having won nine matches this season, while North Melbourne are 17th with just the two victories.
Gold Coast head in as slight favourites on the back of their superior record throughout 2023 and should enjoy the ascendancy in the middle of the ground with Sam Flanders, Touk Miller and Noah Anderson all in good form.
North Melbourne will look for more from the spearhead, Nick Larkey, who booted six goals in the loss to Richmond last weekend, taking his season tally to 62 for the season. The Rising Star favourite, Harry Sheezel, will be out to cap off his excellent debut season with another big performance and comes off a 37 disposal game against the Tigers.
While the Roos have been competitive over the past six weeks, it is hard to see them overcoming their losing streak that extends back to Round 2. They host the Suns at Bellerive Oval in Hobart and have lost their past eight at the venue. Ironically, their last win in Hobart came against the Suns back in 2021.
Suns vs Roos Stats
- Gold Coast have won five of the past six matches between the two sides.
- North Melbourne have lost their past eight matches at Blundstone Arena, their last win at the venue came against Gold Coast in 2021.
- The Kangaroos have lost 20 matches in a row, winning just two games for the season. Gold Coast have won nine games this season.
