North Melbourne vs Gold Coast Preview

The Kangaroos were resilient in defeat against the Lions, eventually falling to a 23-point defeat.

The wooden spoon favourites were able to keep up with premiership contenders Brisbane, for the majority of the match. However, the Lions quality proved too much, with their lack of scoring opportunities letting them down.

This will be North Melbourne’s fifth game in Tasmania this season, and although only getting six premiership points and one win in the Apple Isle, they’ve played their best footy there and will fancy their chances against the struggling Suns.

Meanwhile, the Suns were lacklustre in their 50-point loss to premiership contenders Port Adelaide.

Similarly to the Kangaroos, scoring has been an area of concern, with both sides the worst in the competition for points scored. Stuart Dew’s side only managed four goals for the entire match and 16 points in three quarters.

The work rate against the Power was questionable, with the Power having more tackles despite having almost 100 more disposals. Going forward was also an issue, going at an efficiency of 17.3%, the lowest of any side all season.

Gold Coast President Tony Cochrane voiced his frustration at this season’s results, particularly the previous two weeks, labelling them as what can best be interpreted as terrible.

This has the ingredients to be an entertaining match-up against two struggling sides, but considering the home ground advantage, I believe the Kangaroos could get their second win of the season.

Kangaroos vs Suns Team News

Will Phillips and Tom Campbell had strong performances in the VFL against Coburg last week and could be rewarded for that effort.

The Suns will be forced to make two changes for Saturday’s clash, with David Swallow and Lachie Weller suffering injuries against the Power. Ben Ainsworth had seven scoring shots in the VFL against Aspley and could come into the side.

The two sides last met in Round 2 this season, which saw the Suns win by 59 points.
