Gold Coast vs Essendon Preview

The Suns ended their three-match losing streak against the lacklustre Blues last time out.

Gold Coast lead by Touk Miller, managed to get constant first use of the ball, with their scores from stoppages being a major reason for their 19-point triumph.

The Suns proved they were keen to spoil any chances of the Blues playing finals football this season and will be keen to do the same against the Bombers on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Bombers kept their finals dreams alive after shocking the top of the ladder Bulldogs by 13 points.

It was all about Peter Wright in Essendon’s stirring victory against the top Dogs. He kicked a career-high seven goals to gain his side a valuable four points in the finals race.

After quarter time, the midfield was able to get on top, and despite having considerably less inside 50’s, their efficiency from back to front was crucial.

With games against Gold Coast and Collingwood to close out the home and away season, the Bombers will fancy their chances to make it inside the eight. Their handy percentage makes them one of the favourites to play finals footy if it must come to that.

Essendon has a strong record against the Suns winning four of the last five meetings, and I believe that recent dominance will continue with a lot on the line.

Suns vs Bombers Team News

The Suns have made one change after Brandon Ellis’ injury last week, with Jack Bowes coming into the side after being the medi-sub last week.

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, Martin Gleeson and Nik Cox are out of the Bombers side for Sunday. Whilst captain Dyson Heppell, Andrew McGrath and Archie Perkins return.

The two sides last met in Round 11 last season, which resulted in the first draw between these two sides.
