Brisbane vs GWS Preview
The Lions won their sixth match on the trot last time out in a fiery contest against the reigning premiers.
Brisbane have been the most in-form side competition since their loss to the Western Bulldogs over a month ago. The hero against the Magpies, Zac Bailey, was at it again, against Richmond, kicking four majors in a career-best performance.
The win over the Tigers was one of the most complete games from Chris Fagan’s perspective. It all stemmed from the middle of the ground, with the Lions dominated the clearances by a margin of 52. They were able to refute the Tigers run through the corridor, which went a major way in them receiving the result that they wanted.
They’ve made the Gabba a fortress in recent years, winning 14 of their last 16 matches at their home ground.
Meanwhile, the Giants defeated premiership contenders West Coast to push into the top eight.
GWS relied on their tall targets to provide the goals, with Jesse Hogan and Toby Greene injured to pull them over the line and into a finals position, which many thought was beyond them.
However, the midfield was influential in their positive result. So, an intriguing midfield battle awaits on Saturday afternoon.
The Giants have had another defensive issue, with the latest being Sam Taylor suffering an ankle injury, and with the dangerous forward line of Brisbane that possesses the likes of Eric Hipwood, Joe Daniher and Charlie Cameron, it leaves them vulnerable to a high score kicked against them.
Although the Giants downed a premiership contender last week, it will be a tough achievement against the most in-form team in the competition away from home.
Lions vs Giants Team News
After a strong performance against the reigning premiers, you can expect the Lions to remain unchanged.
The Giants will be forced to make one change with Sam Taylor suffering an ankle injury, with Xavier O’Halloran the likely replacement. Tanner Bruhn and Kieren Briggs starred in the VFL after getting omitted against the Eagles last week.
The two sides last met in Round 7 last season which saw the Lions win by 20 points.
