Collingwood vs GWS Preview

Collingwood secured their fourth consecutive win in a stirring 26-point victory against the reigning premiers in their last match on the Queen’s birthday. They also passed tests against Fremantle (36 points), Carlton (four points) and Hawthorn (four points).

The Magpies currently share the same win-loss record with the three teams that currently occupy top eight spots ahead of them. It would be a big win in terms of the race for a spot in the congested top eight this season despite many predicting them to finish towards the opposite end of the ladder.

Meanwhile, Mark McVeigh’s outfit were involved in one of the matches of the season last weekend against the Dogs but fell short in the highest-scoring match of the season despite Toby Greene’s seven goal haul. Greene also kicked five in the last meeting against Collingwood.

The Giants will be confident of securing the four points on the road despite heading into the match as the heavy underdogs, considering they have won six of the previous seven meetings between the two sides.

Although the betting odds suggest a comfortable win for the home side, it could be a very hard-fought contest on Sunday afternoon. However, we will back the favourite to get over the line, but I wouldn’t count GWS out.

Magpies vs Giants Stats

  • GWS has won the previous four meetings
  • Collingwood have won four matches on the trot
  • GWS have a LWLWL pattern in their last five
  • Collingwood’s last five has hit the under
