Collingwood vs GWS Preview
Collingwood head in as favourites against GWS and will have some fresh legs after they enjoyed the week off following their seven point win over Melbourne in the first week of the finals.
The Magpies made the most of their opportunities against the Demons with Bobby Hill booting three gaols and Dan McStay two. They were well beaten in the inside-50 count but defended well and were able to hold on late in the game.
Craig McRae’s side take on a GWS outfit that have come from the clouds in season 2023. The Giants have won 11 of their past 13 and were too good for St Kilda in the Elimination Final at the MCG, winning that match by 24 points, before accounting for Port Adelaide in Adelaide by 23 in the Semi Final last weekend.
They will look to run the ball through the corridor and target the likes of Jesse Hogan and Toby Greene up forward. That pair combined for seven goals last weekend, while Lachie Whitfield, Stephen Coniglio and Tom Green found plenty of the footy in the middle of the ground.
The Giants head back to the MCG and have had two games at the venue for the win over St Kilda and a 65 point loss against Collingwood back in Round 9. Adam Kingsley’s side have come a long way since then and we can expect that margin to be a lot closer.
Collingwood will be tough to beat. Nick Daicos returns and his inclusion will bolster the Pies. Taylor Adams is the man to miss with a hamstring injury. But with the home crowd behind them, they can advance through to the Grand Final for a date with either Brisbane or Carlton.
