Richmond vs GWS Preview
Richmond started their season with a loss for the first time since 2012, after being overrun by a hungry Carlton outfit in the second half. Despite being in front by four goals on two separate occasions, they still fell to a 25-point defeat.
The hardest thing to take for Damien Hardwick was the manner in which they lost the game. The Tigers uncharacteristically showed a lack of fight and grit when they needed it most in the last term as the Blues piled on seven last quarter goals.
Similarly, the Giants also suffered defeat at the hands of local-rivals Sydney last time out. 21-year-old Tom Green starred in the loss with 31 disposals and two goals as he sets for a breakout season in a midfield that could dominate on Sunday.
They will fancy their chances against a depleted Richmond outfit that they ran over the top of in the closing rounds of last year. However, they will have to relive the fact that they last played the Tigers at this ground in their embarrassing Grand Final loss in 2019.
Although the previous 13 meetings between these two sides have been won by the home side, I don’t believe that will be the case on Sunday. There could be some early concern rising for the Tigers if they are unable to get a positive result.
