GWS vs Richmond Preview

The Giants put themselves in a strong position to make the eight with a victory over the in-form Cats.

Despite having 20 fewer inside 50’s on the day, multiple first-team injuries and fewer clearances, the Giants managed to win by 19 points thanks to their accuracy and efficiency going inside 50.

Captain Toby Greene provided the spark, with some great individual moments in his four-goal performance. In typical Greene fashion, it wasn’t without controversy, with the star forward facing a suspension ahead of Friday night.

Although Sam Taylor held Tom Hawkins to just the one goal, the return of Phil Davis will help them battle it out against Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch. Davis isn’t the only key inclusion, with Josh Kelly and Jacob Hopper headlining the likely returns.

Meanwhile, the Tigers kept their finals hopes alive with a nervy triumph over the hapless Kangaroos.

It was yet another inconsistent match of two halves for Richmond. They only managed to kick two goals for the first half and looked destined for a shock loss. However, a resilient 11-goal second half saw them win comfortably.

Damien Hardwick’s outfit is in the worse ladder position of the two sides heading into Friday and will have to win both of their remaining games against GWS and Hawthorn to have any chance of making the top eight.

This is a huge match in the context of both sides chances of playing finals football this season. I believe it will be similar to the meeting between these sides earlier in the season, with one difference, the Giants claiming the four points.

Giants vs Tigers Team News

The Giants could make a host of changes with multiple players returning from injury. Josh Kelly, Jacob Hopper, Jesse Hogan, Phil Davis, Shane Mumford, Adam Kennedy and Daniel Lloyd all with a chance. Toby Greene will likely miss with a suspension, whilst Brent Daniels and Callum Brown suffered injuries against the Cats.

The only change the Tigers could end up making is the return of Kamdyn McIntosh after being a late out last week.

The two sides last met in Round 9 this season, which saw the Tigers win by four points.
