Hawthorn vs GWS Giants Preview

This shapes as an interesting encounter with the resurgent Hawthorn playing host to the GWS Giants in Launceston on Saturday.

The Hawks lost their first five matches of the season but have rebounded in style by winning five of their past seven and come off a 27 point win over the Adelaide Crows in Round 12.

They take on a Giants outfit that are fresh off the bye in Round 12 and were victorious over Geelong prior to the rest, defeating the Cats by four points in Geelong.

Adam Kingsley’s side have shown over the past year that they can win anywhere and the trip to Launceston shouldn’t phase them but they will have to do it without a couple of key playmakers in Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly.

Hawthorn will need to defend well with GWS boasting plenty of big names in their forward line, including Jesse Hogan and Toby Greene.

Dylan Moore is in career best form for the Hawks and comes off a 27-disposals and five-goal effort, while Will Day can have some influence in the middle. Hawthorn have not beaten GWS in the past three times that have played but are on the up and if they can keep their composure in the key moments, they can chalk up another win.
