Hawthorn vs Giants Preview

There is plenty at stake for the two sides as we head towards the business end of the season. GWS have won 12 of their 19 matches this season and sit in 5th position, while Hawthorn are 9th with 11 victories.

But the Hawks have been the form side of the competition and have won eight of their past nine. Their last two wins have been by 66 points with those coming against the 2023 premiers, Collingwood, and Adelaide in Adelaide last weekend.

A highlight of those wins has been the works of the Hawks half-forwards, including Connor McDonald and Jack Ginnivan, who have been amongst the goals in recent weeks.

Sam Mitchell’s side will look to produced plenty of run and carry from the back-half and into the middle in their bid to chalk up another win, which would take them one step closer to an unlikely finals series.

But the task at handy won’t be easy against a Giants outfit that boast their fare share of big names. Jesse Hogan sits just behind Charlie Curnow in Coleman Medal calculations with 53 goals this season and booted four majors in the two-point win over Melbourne last weekend, while Toby Greene booted three.

The two sides have had some interesting tussles over the years and it was Hawthorn that prevailed in icy conditions the only time they met at the venue in Canberra. The Hawks also boast a six-point victory the last time the two sides played, which was as recently as Round 13 this season. We might be in store for another close one and it is the Hawks that get the nod.
