GWS vs Hawthorn Preview

GWS come into this with some excellent recent form and have won their past three matches. Last weekend it was a two-point victory in tough conditions at Alice Springs. Toby Greene and Josh Kelly both booted two goals, while Tom Green picked up 38 disposals.

The Giants are making a run for the top eight and are now just one win behind 8th placed Essendon with seven victories from their 15 games. They are favoured against a Hawthorn outfit that do not travel well and have battled in the absence of their captain, James Sicily, who faces one more week on the sidelines with suspension.

The Hawks travelled to the Gold Coast in Round 15 and could only manage five goals in the 67 point loss. Sam Mitchell’s side went without a major up until half-time of their Round 16 game against Carlton before eventually going down by 60 points.

Will Day, James Worpel and Josh Ward all had more than 25 disposals but the Hawks lacked the polish when heading from the back half of the ground and will need to work on that in the build up to this clash.

Hawks fans can head in with some degree of hope, given that their side nearly rolled the Giants earlier in the season when going down by two points back in Round 5. But they are without a win in seven attempts at Giants Stadium and it is hard to see Sam Mitchell’s side turning around their recent form.
