Melbourne vs GWS Preview

Melbourne will be out to bounce back after going down to Geelong in Round 15. In the Thursday night encounter, the Demons led the Cats at three-quarter time before conceding six goals in the last term to go down by 15 points.

Inaccuracy was again an issue with Simon Goodwin’s side registering 8.15. Christian Petracca picked up 33 disposals , while Kozzie Picket, Joel Smith and Bailey Fritsch each booted two majors. The Dees have now failed to kick more than eight goals in their past three matches.

The Demons head up to Alice Springs to host the Giants and have won their past two at the venue with the most recent of those coming in 2022, a 14 point win over Port Adelaide. The Giants are yet to play at the ground and come off the bye in Round 15.

Prior to the break, Adam Kingsley’s side produced one of their finest performances of the season, handing Fremantle a 70 point defeat. Jake Kelly sliced the Dockers open with his precision kicking and had 33 disposals and three goals, while Jake Riccardi and Toby Greene combined for nine majors.

That was third win in the past four games with their loss a close one against resurgent Richmond. If they can take that form up to the Alice, they are capable of giving this a real shake against a Demons outfit that will be without Clayton Oliver. That brings the Giants right into the equation and I am willing to tip a minor upset here after their past few weeks.

Demons vs Giants Stats

  • Melbourne have won three of the past four games between the two sides.
  • The Demons have a win-loss record of 9-4, GWS are 6-7.

  • Melbourne have kicked just eight goals per game in their last three games, in the same period, GWS have kicked 15,15 and 19.
