Melbourne vs GWS Preview
Melbourne face a do or die battle in their quest to make the top eight. Simon Goodwin’s side have lost six of their last 10 matches a come off a 50-point loss to the Fremantle Dockers last weekend.
They were smashed in the clearances in that match without Max Gawn, who is a chance to return to face GWS. The Giants sit in 5th position with 11 wins, just one win ahead of 10th placed Melbourne.
They won their last match against Gold Coast with a score of 89-50 at ENGIE Stadium, marking their third consecutive victory.Lachie Whitfield was a standout player in that game, achieving 40 disposals and 780 metres gained.
GWS has a strong record (6-2) when Whitfield has more than 30 disposals in a match this season. The two sides have not met since Round 16, 2023, which was a lo scoring affair (47-45), with Tom Green leading the way with 38 disposals and 16 contested possessions in challenging conditions in Alice Springs.
GWS come in with three wins on the trot and have shown that they can win anywhere, so the home ground advantage shouldn’t be too significant for Melbourne. They look to be the value in the head to head betting.
