North Melbourne vs Hawthorn Preview

The Round 18 encounter sees 17th placed North Melbourne play host to the 16th placed Hawthorn outfit at Marvel Stadium.

After two wins to open up season 2023, the Kangaroos have now lost 14 on the trot. They come off a 62 point loss against Geelong, their second in a row by more than 10 goals. Luke Davies-Uniacke was solid with 28 disposals and two goals, while Nick Larkey also snagged two goals, taking his season tally to 44 for the year. He sits 3rd in Coleman Medal calculations, just four behind Charlie Curnow and Taylor Walker.

On the same weekend, Hawthorn produced an honest performance against GWS in Sydney but couldn’t quite get the job done, going down by 13 points. The Hawks had their opportunities and booted 2.4 in the last quarter to 3.0.

Jai Newcombe, Conor Nash and Karl Amon all found plenty of the footy but their key forward, Mitch Lewis, was held goalless for the first time this season.

He will need to find his form and is likely line up against Ben McKay. Expect Finn Maginness to play the tagging role on Luke Davies Uniacke after holding Josh Kelly to just six disposals in the Giants game last weekend.

The Hawks should take out this clash and a key inclusion will be James Sicily, who finally returns after serving a questionable three-game suspension for a dangerous tackle against Brisbane back in Round 13. The Hawks have won their past three with their skipper in the side and we can expect him to be a key difference here.
