Lions vs Demons Preview

The Brisbane Lions host Melbourne at the GABBA in the first match of AFL Round 16. The Lions head in as favourites for the Friday night clash on the back of their strong recent form that has seen them win their past three matches.

Last year’s runners-up see themselves just outside the top eight and dominated Port Adelaide last weekend, claiming the Adelaide Oval encounter by 79 points.

Melbourne returned to the winners list in Round 15, holding out North Melbourne in the dying stages by three points. The Demons led that clash by 33 at three-quarter time before fading late. Jack Viney and Max Gawn were influential but Clayton Oliver was held to just 14 disposals.

That trio will need massive games in the absence of Christian Petracca. The Lions should hold the aces in the middle of the ground with Lachie Neale and Josh Dunkley coming off 30+ disposal games, while up forward, Eric Hipwood, Joe Daniher and Charlie Cameron will be hard to stop.
