Melbourne vs Collingwood Preview

The Demons made it two wins in a row against two premiership contenders, as they maintained their lead at the top of the table.

Melbourne grinded out their result, which all came down to a superb final quarter against Brisbane to finish the match 22-point victors. A win on Monday should all but secure a top four spot as ahead of an optimistic final’s series, as they aim to win their first flag since 1964.

The premiership favourites looked likely to score in every attack in the second half, with Tom McDonald and Kysaiah Pickett sharing six goals between them.

Without Brody Grundy being available for Collingwood, Simon Goodwin will look to exploit the undermanned opposition midfield. Max Gawn has been dominant all season and with the likes of Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca around him, it could prove deadly.

Meanwhile, the Magpies got their second win in five matches against the Crows in Adelaide last time out.

They could consider themselves lucky to come away with the four points against, with Adelaide’s inaccuracy benefiting the result. Although you can’t take anything away from Collingwood’s grit, as they always had an answer for everything thrown at them. However, they will have an even bigger test against the top of the ladder Demons.

It will be an end of an era for Magpie fans on Monday, with Nathan Buckley coaching his last game in charge, after 260 games as a player and 217 games as a coach.

Jamie Elliott was immense, kicking half of Collingwood’s goals and what also would be the sealer.

Melbourne have been the team to beat so far this season, and I can’t see them falling to a struggling Magpies side on Monday afternoon.
