Melbourne vs Collingwood Preview

Few would have predicted at the beginning of the year that the two sides would be out of finals contention and playing for pride in their final home and away match of the season.

Last year’s premiers, Collingwood, sit in 10th spot on the ladder, while the top four side from 2024, Melbourne, are in 12th. Both have won 11 matches in 2024 with the Magpies higher ranking coming courtesy of a couple of draws.

Both enjoyed impressive wins last weekend. Collingwood came from 17 points down late in the final term to knock over their rivals from last year, Brisbane, by a point. Melbourne travelled to the Gold Coast and handed the Suns a 54 point defeat.

Ed Langdon, Jack Viney and Trent Rivers all had 30+ disposals, while Daniel Turner booted four goals. Viney will need to be at his best again with Collingwood’s Nick Daicos in sparkling form. Lachie Schultz and Dan McStay will look to finish off the work in the front half and kicked vital goals last weekend.

Hard to split these two, while the dead rubbers can always throw up a bit of a result. But it is hard to go past Collingwood on Friday night, given they come in with the slightly superior recent form. They have won three of their past four with the loss a tight one to Sydney, while Melbourne have claimed just one win in their past five matches.
