Melbourne vs Fremantle Preview

Melbourne will be out to consolidate their standing inside the top four and come into this with a win-loss record of 7-4 after handing St Kilda a 38-point defeat in Round 11.

They head to the Alice Springs venue of Traeger Park to host Fremantle and have won four of their past six at the venue.

Fremantle sit in 9th position on the ladder with six wins and a draw, with the latter coming last weekend with scores locked on 75 apiece against Collingwood.

A crucial battle will be in the ruck, where Max Gawn has been dominating in recent weeks. He takes on his former premiership teammate, Luke Jackson, as well as Sean Darcy. The battle here will be interesting.

Both sides have their fare share of ball winners and it might come down to the side that can convert best in their forward half. Goal scoring has been a concern at Fremantle at times this season and the Dockers have averaged just eight goals in the past three rounds.

Melbourne should have the answers at either end of the ground with Steven May in the back half, alongside Adam Tomlinson, who has filled the void left by the injured Jake Lever. We can expect Bailey Fritsch, Jacob Van Rooyen and Christian Petracca to convert inside forward 50 but this does shape as a close one.

Dockers vs Demons Stats

  • Melbourne have a win-loss record of 7-4, Fremantle are 6-4 and a draw.
  • Just half a game separates 4th placed Melbourne and 9th placed Fremantle.
  • Melbourne have won four of their past six at the venue.
  • Fremantle have never played at Traegar Park.
