Gold Coast vs Melbourne Preview

Gold Coast take on Melbourne in one of five AFL matches on Saturday. Both sides are out of the finals race and will be playing for pride. Gold Coast will be looking to defeat the Demons for the first time since 2014, a streak that extends to 11 matches.

They hold the home ground advantage and edged past Melbourne on the ladder last weekend by scoring a memorable one-point win over Essendon with Mac Andrew kicking truly after the siren.

Damien Hardwick’s side joined Melbourne on 10 wins for the season with the two sides separated by percentage. The Demons lost to Port Adelaide on the same evening last weekend, going down to the Power by two points in a low scoring game.

Melbourne did well to contain Port Adelaide but their issue is their inability to score and they have averaged just 73 points per game in the past nine rounds.

Gold Coast have been excellent at home this season, winning all seven games at People First Stadium against interstate opposition. Mac Andrew and Ben King loom as targets up forward, while the likes of Matt Rowell, Noah Anderson and Sam Flanders should provide plenty of supply from the midfield.

Suns vs Demons Stats

  • The Suns are yet to lose to interstate opposition at People First Stadium in 2024.
