Gold Coast vs Melbourne Preview

The Suns had a bright start against the Lions, but a second-half collapse saw them lose by 49 points.

Stuart Dew’s side led by 27 points in a dominant first half. However, an 11-point to 87 second half saw them lose the Q-clash. It was the definition of a Jekyll and Hyde performance.

Gold Coast will have to improve in the middle of the ground if they are any chance of getting an unlikely victory on Saturday. They are currently the worst in the competition for centre clearances.

However, it seems to be when they have their pressure game going, they stay well and truly in the match, and despite laying five more tackles than the Lions last week, they only laid one tackle inside 50 for the match.

Meanwhile, the Demons lost the top spot on the ladder to the Western Bulldogs last time out.

Melbourne is now winless from their previous two matches. A draw against 17th placed Hawthorn and their first loss of the season to a side inside the top eight have seen them drop down to third.

They will desperately be looking for the four points, with the off chance of their top-four spot being in jeopardy, despite being on top of the ladder for the majority of the season.

Simon Goodwin is still looking for the best tall forward dynamic as we head closer to finals football. Tom McDonald is a certain starter, but the inconsistency of Ben Brown and Sam Weideman leaves question marks over their premiership credentials.

Melbourne has a very impressive record against Gold Coast, and I don’t see that changing on Saturday afternoon.

Suns vs Demons Team News

Joel Jeffrey kicked nine goals in the VFL and deserves a debut, with the club not in the hunt for finals.

Melbourne will likely make one change and they will perhaps look at the forward line dynamic. Ben Brown could make way for Sam Weideman.

The two sides last met in Round 6 last season, which saw the Demons win by 17 points.
