North Melbourne vs Brisbane Preview

A poor last term saw the Kangaroos fall to a heart-stopping draw against the Giants last time out.

North Melbourne led by 28 points at three-quarter time but conceded six goals to one in the final term to finish the match as the first draw of the 2021 season.

David Noble’s side is a threat in the Apple Isle, claiming all of their six season points in three matches in Tasmania. A win coming against the Hawks (seven points) and a draw against the Giants (94-94).

The last time these sides met at a neutral venue was last season, where the Lions won a cliff-hanger by one point. The Roos will be looking to get revenge on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Lions six-match winning streak was ended against the top of the table Demons in their last outing.

Similarly to the Roos, Brisbane’s poor final term cost them the match, which would have been a crucial four points in terms of the top four race. They will need to win to stay in the top four assuming the Power defeat the Suns.

Chris Fagan’s side will look to restrict the Roos to a low score after allowing the Demons to go at 57.4% last time out. I believe you can expect the Lions to not only win comfortably but keep the Roos to a score below 50. However, they will miss Dayne Zorko, who got given a one-match suspension for striking.

The battle between Brisbane’s Eric Hipwood and Joe Daniher against North Melbourne’s Ben McKay and Robbie Tarrant will be an intriguing tussle. Especially if both forwards push high up the ground, which they like to do.

Although the Kangaroos have played some good football in Tasmania, I can’t see them getting past the Lions, who are serious premiership contenders.

Kangaroos vs Lions Team News

The Kangaroos are likely to make minimal or no changes as reward for their strong performance against the Giants.

Dayne Zorko was given a one-match suspension for striking against the Demons and Ryan Lester will also miss with an injury. Rhys Mathieson is the most likely to be included.

The two sides last met in Round 12 last season which saw the Lions win by one point.
