Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide Preview

The Hawks came away with the four points in their second upset in three weeks against the Giants last time out.

Alastair Clarkson’s side was resilient throughout their triumph over GWS. After conceding the first four goals of the match, the Hawthorn defence stood strong and restricted GWS to stay goalless for 45 minutes of the match.

Shaun Burgoyne is set to celebrate his 400th match in style against his former side after coming on as the medical substitute against the Giants last week. Burgoyne will only be the fifth player in AFL history to reach the 400-game milestone.

Meanwhile, the Power won an entertaining contest by 10-points against finals contenders Sydney.

Port Adelaide held their nerve and returned to the top-four for the first time since Round 8. In such a tight top five, percentage boosting wins against sides near the bottom of the ladder are crucial for a home finals advantage.

I believe you can expect the Power to bring a highly physical brand of football against a relatively young and inexperienced Hawthorn outfit. Ollie Wines and Travis Boak have been running things in the midfield this season and match-up well against Tom Mitchell and Jaeger O’Meara.

Although the Hawks have pulled off some upsets recently with superb performances, I suspect that the Power will be too strong.

Hawks vs Power Team News

Hawthorn will include Shaun Burgoyne in this one for his 400th match against his former side. Denver Grainger-Barras will miss due to concussion protocols.

The Power will consider including Sam Mayes after his good performance after coming on as the medical substitute.

The two sides last met in Round 13 last season, which saw the Power win by 10 points.
