Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide Preview

The Round 17 encounter between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval will have plenty of bearing on ladder positions within the top eight.

Western Bulldogs are currently trailing Port Adelaide by a single win and sit in 9th position. Their superior percentage will see them inside the eight if they can score on Saturday.

The Dogs come in with some solid recent form and claimed a 17-point victory over North Melbourne last weekend, marking their fifth win from their last seven matches. Marcus Bontempelli was instrumental in the Kangaroos victory with 35 disposals, 20 contested possessions, and 11 clearances, despite concerns about his fitness prior to the game.

Port Adelaide, meanwhile, managed to break a losing streak in their recent match against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium, narrowly winning 62-60. This victory was crucial for them to stay competitive in the top-eight race.

Heading into Saturday’s fixture, Port Adelaide will need to address their performance in clearances, as they have a record of 2-4 when losing the clearance count in 2024, compared to a 6-2 record when winning more stoppage contests. This aspect of the game could be critical against a strong Bulldogs midfield led by Bontempelli.

The Power have won four of their past five against the Western Bulldogs but the record at the Adelaide Oval has been relatively even with the Dogs winning three of their past seven over the Power at the venue, including the 2021 Preliminary Final. Expect the Dogs to come away with a win in what should be an interesting clash.
