Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs Preview

The Power enjoyed a week break after downing the Cats in their preliminary final by 43 points.

Port Adelaide cruised past the Cats, having 12 more scoring shots and looking more finals ready than they ever have before. A vocal crowd mixed with Aliir Aliir’s defensive presence kick-started their dominance. They will need to have a good start again to be on the front foot.

The midfield has been one of the main reasons why Port Adelaide are in the position they are in now, with Ollie Wines and Travis Boak being the definition of consistency this season.

However, history isn’t kind to Port Adelaide in recent finals history, losing last season’s preliminary final at home to the Tigers by six points. They have a chance to rectify that result on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the Dogs caused an upset in a heart-stopping encounter to win by one point against the Lions.

They found themselves three goals down late in the third term, in what was arguably one of the best finals matches ever. A late clutch goal by Bailey Smith and a point by Laitham Vandermeer secured a dramatic triumph.

Although they didn’t come out of the match unscathed, with some major injury concerns to worry about before their biggest game in five years. Captain Marcus Bontempelli is a 50/50 to start, whilst Cody Weightman will miss with a concussion.

The last time Luke Beveridge’s side made the preliminary, they went on to win the flag despite being the underdogs for the entire finals campaign. They are the only team since 1998 to win the premiership after finishing the home and away season outside the top four.

In what will be a tight contest decided by the finest of margins, I believe it will be the home advantage that pulls the Power over the line in this battle.

Power vs Dogs Team News

Port Adelaide will have a fully fit first-team squad to choose from for Saturday night. Mitch Georgiades, Hamish Hartlett and Lachie Jones all recovered from injuries last week and are available for selection.

Cody Weightman will be unavailable under AFL concussion protocols. Whilst Marcus Bontempelli is touch and go to lead his side out on Saturday night.

The two sides last met in Round 23, which saw the Power win by two points.
