Richmond vs Hawthorn Preview

Richmond will be looking to press their case for a spot in the top eight with a win against Hawthorn. The Tigers have won five of their past six matches and now sit in 11th spot on the ladder, just one win away from 5th placed Geelong.

Andrew McQualter’s side recorded a 38 point win over the West Coast Eagles last weekend. Daniel Rioli was one of the stars with 31 disposals, while Dustin Martin chimed in with 23 of his own as well as two majors.

They take on a Hawthorn side that were a bit wasteful early on in their match against North Melbourne before eventually going on to record a 48-point win. Mitch Lewis and Luke Breust each kicked three goals, while Jai Newcombe, Karl Amon, James Worpel and Conor Nash all had 30+ disposals.

James Sicily shapes as a key player and with their skipper in the side, the Hawks have won their past four matches by an average margin of 50 points. He returned to the line-up last weekend after serving a three match suspension.

The Hawks will have to turn around some poor recent form against the Tigers and will look to negate the likes of Tim Taranto and Shai Bolton, who have both had big seasons. I suspect that Richmond’s experience and bigger bodies should be enough to get them through but the Hawks can be dangerous if they get a look in to the game.
