Richmond vs Hawthorn Preview

The hapless Tigers were dominated against the Giants, who cruised to a 39-point triumph.

The reigning premier’s loss all but secured their fate of not playing finals football in 2021. The Tigers struggled to contain the multiple avenues of goal that GWS showcased right from the first siren, and a lack of inexperience proved costly.

The Giants hammered 12 goals in the first half, juxtaposed to the Tigers four. However, the Tigers were able to halt the momentum and win the second half, but it came at a cost with experienced defender David Astbury suffering a quad injury in what was ultimately the last game of his career at the age of 30.

Meanwhile, the Hawks made it three wins on the trot with a shock victory against the top-for Bulldogs.

Hawthorn dragged themselves over the line with pure aggression and determination in tough conditions against a premiership favourite. What would have been the most pleasing for Alastair Clarkson would have been maintaining the second-highest scoring team in the competition to 37 points, when scores against have been a concern this year.

Two of their three previous wins have come against top eight sides, proving that on their day, the Hawks can produce some entertaining football against the competitions best.

The Hawks will be keen to farewell four-time premiership coach Clarkson on a good note, to make it four consecutive wins to end their 2021 campaign.

This is a tough match to predict, with the Tigers in terrible form in the backend of the season. Whilst the Hawks are the opposite and considering that, I believe Hawthorn could steal the four points on Saturday.

Tigers vs Hawks Team News

David Astbury played his final game of his career last week against the Giants after suffering an injury. However, Trent Cotchin looks like a likely return from a knee injury.

The Hawks are set for two massive inclusions, with Jaeger O’Meara and James Worpel returning from injuries. Connor Downie could be one to make way.

The two sides last met in Round 2 this season, which saw the Tigers win by 19 points.
