Hawthorn vs Richmond Preview

Hawthorn enjoy a golden opportunity to take another step towards the September final action when they take on Richmond on Sunday August 18 at the MCG.

After a slow start in 2024, the Hawks have come from the clouds and not find themselves inside the top eight for the first time this season. They replaced Carlton in the top eight after handing the Blues a 74-point defeat last weekend and face the bottom placed Tigers, who have won just twice in 2024.

The Hawks have utilised their hard running brigade to effect by winning 11 of their past 14 matches and we can expect the likes of Dylan Moore, Massimo D’Ambrosio and Josh Weddle in the thick of the action on Sunday, while Maboir Chol, Jack Gunston and Calsher Dear will look to finish off up forward.

Richmond are on an eight-game losing streak with those losses coming at an average margin of 39 points. Last weekend, the Tigers went down by 48 points to St Kilda.

Tim Taranton, Jayden Short, Jacob Hopper and Daniel Rioli all had 25+ disposals but the Tigers lack of depth at either end of the ground will mean that they will find it hard to trouble the Hawks, whose last three wins have come by 66 points or more.
