West Coast vs Richmond Preview

The Eagles will be looking to make it back-to-back wins after downing the Blues by 22-points.

Despite being injury-riddled against Carlton, the resilience and determination of West Coast dragged them over the line in what was a win of huge importance. Liam Ryan starred, kicking four majors.

The Eagles win at the SCG last time out was their first at that venue since 1999. However, they have the benefit of playing at home on Sunday, where they have an impressive record, with only two losses in two years.

Adam Simpson will have talls Josh Kennedy, Oscar Allen and Nathan Vardy available for selection, giving them multiple avenues for goal up forward. Although Oscar Allen will likely start in defence.

Meanwhile, the Tigers won their 11th consecutive match against the Bombers, prevailing by 39-points.

Despite being five goals in front in the third term, the Bombers threatened to mount a significant comeback, hitting the front midway through the final term, only for the reigning premiers to bring them back down to earth, kicking the last seven of the match.

Damien Hardwick’s side was able to restrict Essendon’s ball movement in the first half, but what would be most pleasing was the forward half pressure. The Tigers laid 10 tackles inside 50, juxtaposed to Essendon’s two.

It will be an important four points for both sides, with a win pushing them two games above ninth, assuming the Giants, St Kilda and Fremantle win their games this weekend.

Although the Eagles have their injury concerns, I believe the home advantage will be pivotal in them claiming the four points on Sunday night. However, you can’t discredit this Richmond outfit who are hungry for wins.

West Coast have brought in some big names, with Josh Kennedy, Nathan Vardy, Oscar Allen, Jarrod Brander and Liam Duggan included in the extended squad. Bailey Williams and Brad Sheppard will miss with injury.

*Teams are yet to be reduced to 22, four omissions still need to be made from the eight-man bench.
