Geelong vs St Kilda Preview

The Cats missed out on a chance to go on the top of the ladder, with a surprise loss to the Giants.

Geelong’s 19-point loss has likely blown the chance of Chris Scott’s side winning the minor premiership this season. Nevertheless, they will still be looking for a top-two finish and a home qualifying final.

Despite dominating the inside 50’s by a margin of 20 against the Giants, they were insipid with their ball movement inside 50, only going at 34.4%. You can expect a much more deliberate approach inside 50 this week.

Meanwhile, the Saints kept their slim finals hopes alive, with a triumph over the Swans.

St Kilda has somehow kept their season alive, with a workmanlike performance against the Swans to end their three-match losing streak. Jack Steele, Rowan Marshall and Jack Higgins were all standouts on the night as they ensued revenge on the Swans.

Brett Ratten’s side has underachieved so far in an optimistic campaign after the heights and promise of one season, and although they only find themselves two points behind eighth, their percentage is horrible with games against Geelong and Fremantle to come.

Although the Cats lost on their home deck last week, I can’t see that being repeated against the Saints on Saturday. The Cats should win this one comfortably.

Cats vs Saints Team News

The Cats will have plenty of star power returning, with the likes of Jeremy Cameron Isaac Smith, Lachie Henderson all set to be fit. However, Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Rohan are chances to be ruled out.

Dan Hannebery could be named after being missing with injuries. Leo Connolly will be unavailable after suffering a concussion against the Swans.

The two sides last met in Round 9 this season, which saw the Cats win by 21 points.
