St Kilda vs Geelong Preview
The Saints were impressive, winning their second match on the trot after downing the Suns by nine points.
An improvement from the Saints in the previous two weeks has been the midfield. Despite not having Seb Ross against Gold Coast, the Saints still managed to dominate the clearances, with goals from the midfield proving vital in a low-scoring affair.
St Kilda has shown inconsistencies so far this season, defeating the Eagles and winning two on the trot, but also having heavy defeats to Richmond and Essendon.
Brett Ratten typically has his side progressing the ball by foot rather than hands, with his side taking on average 100 marks a game this season. Against the Cats, who possess dangerous ball users, you can expect the Saints to slow the ball down with short kicks.
Meanwhile, the Cats shocked the reigning premiers in a convincing 63-point triumph last time out.
Geelong finds themselves in the top four despite their sloppy start to their campaign after returning to the winner’s circle in their strong performance against the Tigers.
It looks like the new-look forward line with Jeremy Cameron is gelling together nicely. The star forward has kicked 12 goals from his first three matches at the cattery, with Tom Hawkins, Garry Rohan and Cameron combining for 15 goals in Round 8.
It will be an intriguing midfield tussle, with both sides in good form. Geelong is ranked second in the competition for clearances, whilst the Saints are ranked fourth.
Although the Saints hold the home ground advantage, I don’t see them coming on top in this one, with Geelong’s forward line hitting form at a crucial point of the season.
Saints vs Cats Team News
Seb Ross should return to the side after missing last week due to his wife giving birth to twin boys. Mason Wood and Darragh Joyce are the likely omissions.
The Cats will be forced to make a couple changes with Sam Simpson and Luke Dahlhaus suffering injuries against the Tigers that could possibly see them miss this week. You can expect both Rhys Stanley and Esava Ratugolea to play against a taller St Kilda outfit.
The two sides last met in Round 11 last season which saw the Cats win by 59 points.
