Sydney vs GWS Preview

Sydney cruised their way to a commanding victory against the lacklustre Suns to put them in good spirits ahead of Saturday’s clash.

The Swans were extremely impressive with their creativity and pressure in the forward half of the ground. Something they will need to be on top of against the Giants, who like to play a marking game in the back half.

It will be a big game for Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin, who is only eight goals away from the 1,000-career goal mark after his six-goal haul against the Suns last time out. The legendary forward has an exceptional record against the Giants, with 46 goals in his 15 games against them.

The Swans will be sweating on the availability of Callum Mills and Josh Kennedy, who are both influential in the New South Wale’s club’s playstyle. Mills trough his run off half-back and Kennedy with his leadership in the midfield.

Similarly, the Giants continued their strong form, making it three wins on the trot with a 14-point triumph over the Blues.

GWS would be disappointed with their wastefulness in front of the goal, knowing they could have won by a much greater margin than they did. Nevertheless, their midfield depth has been crucial to their success in the previous month.

Leon Cameron’s side is the worst team inside the eight for points scored, including the only team with a percentage under 100. However, their previous three weeks have shown that they can outscore the best of oppositions. They also have the cutting edge over the Swans in recent finals history, with two wins in the only meetings between the two sides.

Both sides head into this match in very strong form, and I believe you will see an extremely physical encounter in which the Giants cause an upset over the optimistic Swans.

Swans vs Giants Team News

Star duo Callum Mills and Josh Kennedy will both be touch and go for Saturday’s match as they battle injuries. Braeden Campbell was quiet but should retain his spot if the pair aren’t fit.

Xavier O’Halloran is set to miss a week with a calf injury against the Blues. Whilst youngster Tom Green will be pushing for selection as he recovers from his hamstring.

The two sides last met in Round 18, which saw the Swans win by 26 points.
