Sydney vs Melbourne Preview
Sydney come in with six straight wins and were lucky to escape with a one-point victory over the Adelaide Crows in Round 23. The Swans led that match by as much as 44 points and were running on empty before being on the right side of a controversial goal-umpiring call late in the game.
Last year’s runners-up will be with up to 20 of the side that stepped out in the decider last season and we can expect big games from Errol Gulden, Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner. That trio set up the victory in Round 23.
Melbourne also come in with some solid form, having won six of their past seven. The Demons accounted for Hawthorn in a hard fought game last weekend, with Steven May and Jake Lever patrolling the backline, while Jack Viney continued his fine season with 25 disposals.
Jacob Van Rooyen and Jake Melksham loom as key targets up forward and combined for six goals last week but the Demons will need a lift from Clayton Oliver, who was well held. This does look to be a tight one. Melbourne have the class edge but it is the Swans that enjoy the home ground advantage. Expect this to go right down to the wire.
