Sydney vs Essendon Preview

The Swans shocked many people in their outing on the Easter weekend, defeating the reigning premiers by 45 points at the MCG.

Richmond has been the top dog for four years now, and John Longmire’s side breezed past them, holding a handsome 40-point lead at the main break thanks to their high intensity and dominance around the middle.

It’s been the young talent that has provided the spark for the Swans at the start of the season. Chad Warner provided it against the Tigers booting two goals. Rising star favourite Errol Gulden, along with competitors Braeden Campbell and Logan McDonald will again look to exploit the Bombers.

Similarly, the Bombers surprised everyone with their terrific performance against top-six contenders St Kilda, running out 75-point winners.

A new look Essendon side dominated all aspects of the game, with their disposal efficiency being particularly high at 80.8%. However, it will be the pressure that pleased Ben Rutten most after a lacklustre performance against Port Adelaide. Despite having 117 more possessions than the Saints, they had 22 more tackles as well.

Darcy Parish led the line from the middle of the ground with a career-best game and man of the match performance. The team who wins the midfield battle will almost certainly claim the four points. An intriguing tussle awaits.

It’s predominantly an exciting match when these two teams meet, with the last three matches being decided by 10 points or less. However, if you consider Sydney’s strong start to the season and home ground advantage, it will be hard to look past them in this one, but don’t count the Bombers out.

Swans vs Bombers Team News

The Swans will most likely make a couple of changes but at least one change with Lance franklin set to return for Hayden McLean. James Rowbottom is also a chance to feature.

Mason Redman was subbed off for a precautionary hamstring injury against the Saints but will still most likely be left out as a result for skipper Dyson Heppell.

The two sides last met in Round 2 last season which saw the Bombers win by six points.
