Sydney vs Essendon Preview

Sydney was involved in one of the upsets of the round after falling short against Gold Coast by 14 points at the SCG last weekend. However, they have won 10 of the previous 11 meetings at home against the Bombers.

Encounters between the Swans and Essendon are typically highly contested, physical matches. So, you can expect that the team that comes out on top in the middle of the ground will escape with the four points.

Meanwhile, the Bombers were on the positive result of another upset in Round 8, downing traditional rivals Hawthorn despite external pressure and five late omissions hours leading up to the match.

Ben Rutten’s outfit was allowed to play with more freedom due to the late outs and looked the most entertaining they have all season in a 50-point last term. They looked like a side that wanted it more and wasn’t afraid to bring the heat. Could it be a season igniting performance?

It will be an intriguing forward battle between straight-shooter Peter Wright and star Lance Franklin. Wright kicked six against the Hawks, whilst Franklin has kicked 75 goals in 18 matches against Essendon.

It looks destined to be another close match between the two sides, with the last five meetings being decided by less than 10 points. Considering the Swans hold the home ground advantage, I believe they could come out on top.
