Sydney vs Gold Coast Preview

The Swans escaped a little scare to defeat the spirited Kangaroos by 14 points last time out.

Sydney’s poor accuracy in front of goal cost them a healthy percentage boost, but it was the small forwards that provided the spark this time around. Will Hayward, Isaac Heeney, Oliver Florent and Tom Papley combined for seven goals.

The Swans will be sweating over some injury concerns as we head into the last game of the home and away season, with Josh Kennedy, Tom Hickey and Nick Blakey all suffering injuries. Blakey’s run and spark off half-back will be missed for the remainder of the season. It will be crucial for the Swans to head into an optimistic finals campaign with a win.

Meanwhile, the Suns were lacklustre in their heavy 68-point defeat at the hands of the Bombers.

Stuart Dew’s side would be disappointed with their efforts against Essendon. They were monstered in the one-on-one contests and struggled to set up defensively despite not having the game on their terms.

Gold Coast will need to be more organised and defensively stable against a formidable Swans outfit, who will punish you for silly turnovers and mistakes. They will have the confidence to repeat their 40-point triumph against them earlier in the season.

Sydney will be looking to head into their optimistic finals campaign in high spirits, and I believe they’ll do exactly that with a cruisy victory to end their home and away campaign.

Swans vs Suns Team News

Lance Franklin, Jake Lloyd and Chad Warner could all return to the side after recovering from injuries. Whilst Josh Kennedy is set to miss a match and Tom Hickey will be touch and go with knee soreness.

This is an opportunity for the Suns to give some chances to some more hidden young talent, with nothing on the line. Jarrod Harbrow is set for a farewell game after announcing his retirement.

The two sides last met in Round 6 this season, which saw the Suns win by 40 points.
