Carlton vs West Coast Preview

The Blues showed a lot of fight but wasn’t able to break down the Swans in a 22-point defeat.

Carlton struggled after halftime to contain Isaac Heeney, Buddy Franklin and Tom Papley, who combined for nine goals. They struggled defensively, allowing the Swans to take 14 marks inside 50 juxtaposed to their nine.

The Blues are every chance to come away with a positive result and move one step closer to the eight, with Harry McKay leading the line. McKay has kicked 38 goals this season, averaging 3.5 a match. He could have a big day with no Jeremy McGivern in defence.

Meanwhile, the Eagles were disappointing in their 16-point loss to a young Bombers outfit.

West Coast lead by as much as 29-points in the second quarter after kicking nine goals straight to start the match before their first minor. They weren’t able to keep up with the Bombers run with two less on the bench and Elliot Yeo on managed minutes.

Adam Simpson’s side will be without a lot of their stars for this clash. Josh Kennedy, Oscar Allen and Tim Kelly are the major outs, which drastically alters their forward line dynamic. Leading Eagles goalscorer, Jack Darling, will need to have a big day out for his side to kick a winnable score.

West Coast has had the better of the Blues in the past six years, winning the previous six meetings.

This is a tough match to predict, with Carlton being the favourite according to Sportsbet. The Eagles have a terrible away record, and I can’t see them getting the four points taking into consideration their high-profile injuries.

Blues vs Eagles Team News

The Blues will be without Michael Gibbons who misses with an injury. However, Jack Newnes, Luke Parks, Paddy Dow and Zac Fisher are named.

West Coast have a host of changes with Brendon Ah Chee, Jarrod Brander, Josh Kennedy, Oscar Allen and Tim Kelly all injured. Nathan Vardy, Xavier O’Neill and Zac Langdon are all notable inclusions.

*Teams are yet to be reduced to 22, four omissions still need to be made from the eight-man bench.

The two sides last met in Round 11 last season which saw the Eagles win by 22 points.
