Collingwood vs West Coast Preview

Collingwood will be out to keep the momentum going when they take on West Coast in Round 9. After losing their first three matches to start 2024, talk of a premiership hangover was all the rage but the Magpies have since won four matches, while they split their Round 7 match against Essendon, drawing that clash.

Last weekend, Nick Daicos helped see Collingwood over the line with a clutch goal late in the match against Carlton, helping his side to a six-point win. The victory sees his side in 9th position at the end of Round 8 and within striking distance of a spot back inside the eight.

West Coast have dropped their past two matches but have improved in 2024 on the back of some strong performances from Elliot Yeo and the number one draft pick, Harley Reid. However, they will be without Yeo for the Sunday game with the gun midfielder pulling up with a groin injury in the Eagles six-point loss to Essendon last weekend.

They will need a big performance from Reid, as well as Tim Kelly and Liam Duggan, with the latter pair picking up 25+ disposals in the loss to the Bombers. Jake Waterman will be a focal point up forward and has kicked 18 goals in the past four rounds.

The Magpies have injury concerns of their own and Jordan de Goey is expected to miss another game, while Beau McCreery is a casualty out of the Blues match. But with Daicos and a host of others in solid form, the 2023 premiers should get the job done at Marvel Stadium.
