West Coast vs GWS Preview

West Coast Eagles appear in front of their home fans for the first time this year and will be looking to improve on their 2023 season that saw them go down by some huge margins en route to winning just three of their 23 matches for the year.

But the task at hand will be a hard one as they bump into one of the form sides of the competition, the GWS Giants. Last year’s Preliminary Finalists have won both of their games this season and were too good for last year’s premiers, Collingwood, in the opening round, winning that clash by 32 points, before defeating North Melbourne by 39 points in Round 1.

On the same weekend, West Coast were rolled by Port Adelaide to the tune of 50 points. The Eagles just didn’t find enough of the footy against the Power. Jack Petruccele played a cameo role up forward with their goals but some big names in Oscar Allen, Andrew Gaff and Jack Darling failed to fire.

That trio will need to lift their output. Jesse Hogan shapes as a key target up forward for GWS and comes off a six-goal haul, while the likes of Tom Green, Stephen Coniglio and Lachie Whitfield are sure to find plenty of the footy.

Interestingly, West Coast have not lost in four matches between the two sides at Optus Stadium. But it would be a brave person to tip against the Giants, who look too good here.
