Eels vs Broncos Preview & Prediction

The Eels and Broncos continue their push for the top four when they square off in a crucial encounter to kick off NRL Round 19 action on Thursday night.

Brisbane are sitting in fifth spot on the ladder and Parramatta are in sixth, with the winner of this clash temporarily climbing into the top four – and they will stay there if the Rabbitohs get the better of a struggling Melbourne side.

Both teams are coming off two wins on the trot, with the Eels claiming narrow victories over the Warriors and Tigers, while the Broncos toppled the Dragons and Titans.

Neither of those victories is anything to write home about, but the winner of this game will take huge confidence in the run into the finals.

Parramatta have struggled with their consistency all season – they’ve conquered the likes of Penrith and Melbourne on the road, but slipped up against the likes of the Bulldogs and Tigers.

Brisbane meanwhile would want more success on the road – they’ve lost two of their last three away games, while their lone away win over a top eight team this season came against the Rabbitohs back in May.

Both sides see some big guns return for this showdown, with Ryan Matterson back for the Eels, while Origin reps Corey Oates, Pat Carrigan and Kurt Capewell are all back for the Broncos, while Payne Haas also returns from injury.

VERDICT:

It promises to be a cracking contest if both teams bring their best level on Thursday night.

We’re leaning with the Eels at CommBank – although it should be tight, with nine of their 11 wins in 2022 coming by a 1-12 margin. Brisbane also need to prove themselves on the road, toppling just one team in the top eight in away games this season (Best Eels win H2H odds $1.60 with bet365.)
