Sea Eagles vs Raiders Preview & Prediction

Manly and Canberra have played out some absolute thrillers in recent seasons – could the people of Mudgee be in for another pulsating affair when they two teams collide on Super Saturday?

Five of the last 10 meetings between the sides have been decided by two points or less, including a 19-18 win for Manly last year.

The Sea Eagles have the edge with a 7-3 record over those 10 games, but with only two of those fixtures seeing a 13+ margin, the Raiders haven’t been far away on each occasion.

It wasn’t a great start to the season for Manly after they were humbled by the Panthers and Roosters, but to be fair, that’s one of the toughest draws to open the campaign you could ask for.

Manly weren’t too flash last week, but they got the job done in wet conditions against the Bulldogs, with Daly Cherry-Evans’ field goal proving the difference in a 13-12 victory.

Meanwhile, the Raiders pulled off a miraculous comeback against the Titans last week, recovering from a 22-point first-half deficit to prevail 24-22 in the nation’s capital.

That result improved Canberra’s record to 2-1 for the season, with their one defeat coming to the Cowboys in Townsville – which in hindsight following North Queensland’s thumping win over Brisbane, doesn’t seem too poor of a loss now.

VERDICT:

All signs point to another close game between these two teams.

Manly prevailed by a single point last week and Canberra won by two. As mentioned, five of the last 10 meetings have been decided by 2 points or less.

Canberra at the +6.5 line looks solid value as a result (Best Raiders +6.5 line odds $1.87 with bet365), as does Manly pulling off another tight win in a 1-12 margin.
