Raiders vs Knights Preview and Prediction
With just three wins from eight rounds, both the Raiders and Knights need two points in order to start moving in the right direction on Saturday afternoon in Wagga Wagga.
Canberra might be happy to move away from GIO Stadium for this clash – they’ve lost three straight at their home venue, while two of their three victories this season have come outside the ACT.
The Raiders have lost four games in a row for the first time since 2018 and it’s primarily due to their woeful second half performances.
Indeed, the Raiders have only scored eight points combined throughout their last four second halves, which suffice to say is a serious problem.
Canberra could have easily won all of their last four matches had they kept their foot on the pedal, but for whatever reason they can’t put an 80-minute performance together and have slipped outside the top eight as a result.
Newcastle aren’t travelling any better and come into this encounter having lost five of their last six games – including a crushing 38-4 loss to the Roosters last week at home.
The Knights have only scored one try in their last two defeats and are desperately missing the experience and creativity of injured halfback Mitchell Pearce.
With a terrible away record and absolutely no confidence right now, it will take a mammoth effort for the Knights to win this one – even with the Raiders out of form themselves.
This is the perfect chance for Canberra to erase their second half demons and I think they can win this one comfortably if they do.
Raiders vs Knights Teams
Josh Papalii and George Williams return to strengthen the Raiders, but Josh Hodgson and Jarrod Croker are still a week away.
Phoenix Crossland has been called into the Knights side in place of the injured Blake Green, while Hymel Hunt replaces Starford To’a on the wing.
