Canberra Raiders vs Wests Tigers Preview & Prediction

After suffering back-to-back defeats, the Raiders must return to the winners circle when they face the embattled Tigers on Sunday in the nation’s capital.

It’s been a strange old season for the Raiders – they started terribly with four defeats from five games, but bounced back to win 10 of their next 12.

However, they haven’t been able to really dominate any team this season, with all of their wins coming by a 1-12 margin.

Now, the Raiders come into this encounter on the back of two losses against the Warriors and Knights, the last of which a disappointing 28-6 defeat at home.

Despite those defeats, the Raiders are still sitting pretty in fifth spot on the ladder, but they absolutely can’t afford to drop this game.

The Tigers are staring down the barrel of a second straight wooden spoon unless they can drastically reverse their fortunes over the final five rounds of the season.

To be fair to the Tigers, they haven’t been too bad recently, hanging with a full-strength Rabbitohs side in a 32-18 defeat, while they also only lost by four points to the Dragons the previous week.

With Luke Brooks and Api Koroisau back and Jahreem Bula on fire at fullback, the Tigers have potential in their spine and a solid forward pack, so they should be confident of matching it with an under-pressure Raiders outfit.

VERDICT

As mentioned, the Raiders haven’t beaten any team by 13+ all season – and that includes a narrow 20-19 win over the Tigers earlier in the year.

Canberra have looked poor over the last fortnight, while the Tigers have improved ever so slightly. As such, tentatively backing the Tigers to cover a +12.5 line, but the Raiders will probably grind out another tough victory (Best Tigers +12.5 line odds $1.91 with bet365.)
