Canberra Raiders vs Wests Tigers Preview & Prediction

The Tigers play their first game of the season when they travel to the nation’s capital to face a confident Raiders side on Saturday afternoon.

Having enjoyed the bye in Round 1, Tigers’ fans will be hoping their new-look squad can deliver an encouraging performance here.

Benji Marshall is in charge and has opted to leave veteran Aidan Sezer on the bench, with Lachlan Galvin debuting in the halves to partner new recruit Jayden Sullivan.

Justin Olam is out injured and will need to wait to make his Tigers debut as Solomona Faataape plays his first NRL game in the centres.

The Tigers have a strong forward pack, but there’s lots of uncertainty and inexperience surrounding the backline and halves.

Meanwhile, the Raiders surprised almost everyone with their stunning upset of the Knights last week, producing a 28-12 ambush victory on the road.

Canberra frustrated the Knights into submission and once again, took full advantage of Jamal Fogarty’s kicking game to score most of their early tries.

The Raiders aren’t a flashy side, but they knuckle down and get the job done and Ricky Stuart will be hoping for more of the same here.

VERDICT:

Too much uncertainty surrounding the Tigers to back them straight out of the gate here. Canberra won seven of their 12 games at GIO Stadium last season and have prevailed in the last seven meetings between the teams.

We’ll back Under 44.5 points for our best bet – this has landed in seven of the last eight meetings between the teams and the Tigers’ attack could take a while to get going in their opening game of the season (Best Under 44.5 points odds $1.92 with Dabble.)
