Canterbury Bulldogs vs Gold Coast Titans Preview & Prediction
A crucial two points is up for grabs as the Bulldogs and Titans chase their first win of the season to launch Super Saturday action.
Despite another mammoth recruitment drive, the Bulldogs have started the season 0-2, losing by 13+ margins to the Eels and Sharks.
Canterbury did themselves no favours with countless errors against the Eels, but they did showcase improvement when they took on the Sharks last week, especially in the first half, where they easily could have led by double-digit figures after having a try disallowed due to referee obstruction and Blake Wilson also stepping on the sideline as he crashed over in the corner.
The point for the Dogs is this – they have definitely displayed more resilience in defence, which is a great sign, but the fact remains their attack is slow, predictable and outdated. Something simply needs to change there.
Meanwhile, the Titans enjoyed the bye last week, but they were embarrassed in their season opener, losing 28-4 at home to the Dragons, who then went on to lose 38-0 to the Dolphins in Round 2.
No doubt Des Hasler would have been fuming with that effort and he would have hammered his team in the lead-up to this game against the club he coached to two Grand Finals before a controversial departure.
VERDICT:
I mean, this is as good a chance as the Dogs are going to get for a confidence-boosting win. Yes, their record at Belmore is poor lately, but if they can’t get up at their spiritual home against one of the competition’s weakest teams (Titans have lost 10 of their last 12 away games too), then they are in real trouble.
Will back Canterbury to get over the line in a tight and scrappy affair (Best Bulldogs win H2H odds $1.82 with Dabble.)
