Eels vs Bulldogs Preview and Prediction

Parramatta have surged back into top form and will target a third straight win when they confront lowly rivals Canterbury on Sunday at Bankwest Stadium.

After suffering disappointing back-to-back defeats against fellow premiership contenders Manly and Souths, the Eels bounced back strongly to crush Newcastle 40-4 and Wests Tigers 40-12 over the last fortnight.

Those victories continued a train of thought that the Eels are becoming flat track bullies, easily beating those below them on the ladder but falling short against the very best.

We believe that trend will continue here when the Eels face the last-placed Bulldog. Parramatta have scored 30+ points and prevailed by 13+ margins in their last eight games against teams outside the top eight.

Canterbury will bring some confidence into this encounter after stunning the Dragons 28-6 on Monday, boosting their chances of avoiding the wooden spoon.

It was the Bulldogs’ best attacking display of the season, but in truth, the Dragons were absolutely woeful, so it will be a big ask of the Dogs to repeat that effort against a genuine top four outfit in this showdown.

VERDICT:

Parramatta have won nine of the last 11 meetings between the teams and will almost certainly extend that run on Sunday.

We mentioned earlier the Eels are becoming masters of comfortably accounting for bottom eight sides, so we’ll be backing the home side to win by 13+ (Eels win 13+ & under 50.5 points best odds $2.00 with Neds).

However, we also believe this will be a low-scoring game. Fourteen of the last 15 meetings between the teams have seen under 50.5 points, while Bankwest Stadium has yet to see a game this season total more than 52 points.

Furthermore, the Bulldogs have seen over 50.5 points just once in their 14 games this season.
