Bulldogs vs Eels Preview & Prediction

The Eels will be confident of continuing their recent dominance over the embattled Bulldogs when the two rivals square off on Monday afternoon at Accor Stadium.

One of the biggest rivalries in the NRL has been one-way traffic over the last few years, with the Eels winning 10 of the last 12 encounters, including four straight coming into this clash.

Parramatta have proven they can beat any team in the competition this season by conquering the Panthers and Storm on enemy territory, but it’s winning these kinds of games and finding some consistency that remains their biggest challenge.

Brad Arthur’s side are building nicely towards that, beating the Sea Eagles and Raiders before refreshing with the bye last week, meaning they have now won back-to-back matches for the first time since April 9.

Mitch Moses and Dylan Brown have combined for 24 try assists this season and will be relishing the chance to rip apart the shaky Dogs defence.

Unfortunately, it’s the same old story for the Bulldogs, who despite recruiting several high-profile players for this season, find themselves anchored to the bottom of the ladder with just two wins for the season.

Matt Burton kicking for Josh Addo-Carr is the only time Canterbury look like scoring points, with the pair combining twice in last week’s loss to a Panthers side missing six Origin players.

Kyle Flanagan has gone back into his shell and simply needs to get more involved as halfback if the Bulldogs want to take some of the playmaking pressure off Burton and threaten more in the final third.

Regardless, it’s already been another wasteful season at Belmore and another rebuilding phase is already underway midway through the current campaign.

VERDICT:

The Eels have dominated Canterbury in recent times and nothing suggests that should change here, with the Dogs losing 11 of their 13 games this season.

Canterbury are leaking plenty of points (30+ in their last three), so we’re backing the Eels to win by at least 10 points with over 36.5 total points in the match (Best Eels -9.5 line & over 36.5 points odds $1.95 with bet365.)
